Practical methods to increase your line’s OEE

Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is the product of three components: availability, performance and quality. Increasing OEE is the most effective way to gain capacity without buying new machines.

Find the root cause of stops

Small but frequently recurring stops (micro-stops) are often the biggest loss. They cannot be solved without data tracking.

Shorten changeover times

With quick-changeover (SMED) methods, product transition times can be reduced significantly.

You can’t improve a loss you don’t measure; data first, then action.

Switch to preventive maintenance

Planned maintenance instead of reacting after a breakdown largely prevents unexpected stops.

Operator training

An operator who uses it correctly gets more output than the most expensive machine. Training is OEE’s invisible lever.
